Planned water supply maintenance for 2 to 4 June 2026

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct planned work in the identified areas, which may result in water supply disruptions. This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee that all residents will experience a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they can prepare if one does occur.
Planned maintenance work will result in a water supply disruption to these areas:
Newlands Reservoir shutdown – update
The City diverted the water supply from the large Newlands Reservoirs to its other reservoirs serving the same supply areas from 08:00 on Saturday, 23 May 2026. This was to enable annual cleaning, which started on Monday, 25 May 2026, and is currently in the final stages, before switching over to normal operations. No water supply disruptions are expected during the cleaning of the reservoir.
Silver Oaks – Kuils River
The City will shut off the water supply temporarily to the Silver Oaks area in Kuils River on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 08:00 until 17:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely make connections to the water supply main to the area and switching the water supply to the new water supply infrastructure. Residents in this area will experience no water during this period.
Part of Rylands
The City will shut off the water supply temporarily to the area bounded by College Road, Jane Avenue, Repulse Road, Johnson Road and possibly surrounding roads in Rylands on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00 and again on Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 10:00 until 18:00. This will allow for essential maintenance work to be done safely on the water supply network in the area. Residents on these roads will experience no water during this period.
Part of Bergvliet
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to a part of Bergvliet, on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30 which will result in a water supply disruption. This will allow for the safe connection of the newly installed water mains in Zomerlust Road and Airlie Road in Bergvliet to the existing water supply infrastructure. Residents in these roads and possibly surrounding roads in Bergvliet will experience no water during this period.
Ottery
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Ottery, on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30 which will result in water supply disruption. This will allow the maintenance team to safely replace a water meter on the water supply main to the area. Residents in this area will experience no water during this period.
Grassy Park
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Grassy Park, on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00 for maintenance work on the water supply network to the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Part of Hanover Park, Springfield Road (Philippi), Athlone Industria, Sand Industria and Pinati Estate
The City will shut off the water supply temporarily to these areas and all roads leading to Springfield Road on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely do a new connection on the 300mm diameter water supply main to these areas on the corner of Govan Mbeki Drive and Hanover Park Avenue. Residents in these areas will experience no water during this period.
Parts of Helderzicht and Paardevlei in Somerset West
The City will be shutting off water supply temporarily to parts of Helderzicht in Somerset West and Paardevlei in Somerset West on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00 to install a water meter on the water supply main to these areas. Residents in these areas will experience no water during this period.
Parts of the Steenberg Golf Estate
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to parts of the Steenberg Golf Estate, on
Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30 which will result in a water supply disruption. This will enable the maintenance team to safely install a Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) valve to the existing water reticulation pipelines along Charnwood Avenue. Residents in the affected area will experience no water during this period and are advised to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Pelican Heights
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Grassy Park, on
Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00 for maintenance work to be done on the water supply network to the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Diep River
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to a Grassy Park, on
Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00 for maintenance work to be done on the water supply network to the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Westridge – Somerset West
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Westridge in Somerset West, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to conduct investigations and various pressure tests on the water supply network in the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Crossroads, Browns Farm, Nyanga, Luzuko Park and Klipfontein Mission
The City will shut off the water supply temporarily to the Crossroads, Browns Farm, Nyanga, Luzuko Park and Klipfontein Mission areas on
Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 08:00 until 17:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely do a new connection and install a fire hydrant on the 225mm diameter water supply main to the area. Residents in these areas will experience no water during this period.
Claremont, Wynberg and Kenilworth
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to parts of Claremont, Wynberg and Kenilworth below the railway line on
Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 09:00 until 20:00 and again on Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 09:00 until 20:00 to enable the maintenance team to tie-in two separate Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs) on the water supply main for this water supply zone. A large part of these areas will experience lower than usual water pressure and a smaller part no water supply during this period. Residents are advised to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Large part of Noordhoek
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to a large part of Noordhoek on
Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely commission the new water supply mains in Beach Road, Heldray Road, Oak Avenue, Pepper Lane and Hoek Street in Noordhoek. Residents in Noordhoek will experience no water during this period.
Parts of Steenberg
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to the area bounded by Military Road, Wagner Road, Ravel Street, Wentzel Road, Flora Road and possibly surrounding streets in Steenberg
from 09:00 until 19:30 on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. This will enable the safe completion of connections to the existing water supply infrastructure at the intersections of Ravel Street and Military Road, Ravel Street and Wagner Road and La Brenton Avenue and Military Road. Residents in this area will experience no water during this period.
Part of Woodstock
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Victoria Road (between Ravenscraig Road, and Walmar Road), Station Road (between Victoria Road and Albert Road), Sussex Road (between Victoria Road and Albert Road) and Wright Street (between Sussex Road and Station Road) in Woodstock, on
Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely replace a faulty control valve on the water supply main to the area. These roads and possibly surrounds will experience no water during this period.
Kuils River
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to the Kuils River area, on
Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to conduct investigations and various pressure tests on the water supply network in the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Plattekloof and Baronetcy Estate
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Plattekloof and Baronetcy Estate, on
Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 09:00 until 17:00 to do a test shut-off. This will enable the maintenance to assess the extent of the impact during a future tie-in planned along Olienhout Avenue in Plattekloof. These areas will experience low water pressure to no water during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:
- Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
- All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
- Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
- For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:
- Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
- Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
